Toronto Cup—May 7th and 8th 2010
The QuickFeet Minor Bantam's had their first road trip as a team when they traveled to Toronto to compete in the Canlan Toronto Cup on May 7th and 8th.  After having a month of practice it was time to test what head coach Craig Shaw, assistant coaches Keith Robertson and Mark Taylor and goalie coach Mike Glassford had taught the team.

The first game against Mr Uniform Tigers had the QuickFeet team scratching their heads as they wondered what went wrong.  Chalk it up to long commutes and first tournament jitters, the team could not battle the Tigers and despite Jacob Locking’s great effort in net found themselves on the losing end 5-0.

After regrouping~a late night game finally brought a win.  The QuickFeet team beat the Durham 96’s 2-1 with goals from Justin Graham~assisted by Braden Boley and an unassisted goal from Kyle Hunter.  Goalie, Cam Harron, kept the scoring low allowing only one to squeak by.

Saturday showed the boys what they were really capable of doing on the ice when they were awarded a win against the Thornhill Raiders with a score of 7-3.  With end to end action the team passed the puck and outplayed the Raiders.  Kyle Hunter started the scoring with an assist from Ben Scheel and Riley Robertson.  Not long after Braden Boley buried the puck with an assist from Justin Graham.  Second period Ben Scheel netted two both assisted by Justin Graham with help from Braden Boley and Chase Ambeau.  Goalie Jacob Locking and the defense team of Riley Robertson, Robert White, Connor Shaw, Matthew Taylor, Chase Ambeau and Josh Hopkins worked effortlessly to keep the Raiders chances of scoring to a minimum and gave the team more chances to tuck the puck behind the Raider’s goalie.  Finishing off the scoring in the third period was Kyle Hunter-assisted by Keegan McLelland and Josh Hopkins, Riley Robertson-assisted by Ben Scheel and Justin Graham-assisted by Keegan McLelland and Riley Cook.

Sunday morning’s early game against the Cougar Selects started off with QuickFeet’s Justin Graham goal assisted by Reid Simmons and Connor Shaw.  Kyle Hunter assisted by Riley Cook added another in the first period.  Second period Reid Simmons netted one assisted by Justin Graham and Braden Boley followed closely by a goal from Brendan Aitken assited by Quinten Bruce and Robert White.  This tipped the lead in favour of QuickFeet 4-3.  Kyle Hunter used the opportunity of a penalty shot to push the lead to 5-3 after he faked out the Raider goalie.  Goalie Cam Harron was like a wall stopping everything that the Cougars sent his way.  Keegan McLelland padded the lead early in the third with an assist from Riley Cook to give the team a 6-3 lead.  Unfortunately with only minutes left on the clock the QuickFeet bench ran into some penalty troubles and after the Cougar Selects pulled their goalie making it a six on four scoring chance the Cougar’s took advantage and popped three quick ones to end up with a tied game.

After finishing top four in round robin play the QuickFeet team made their way to AAA elite championship semi finals where they would meet their nemesis Mr Uniform Tigers.  Goalie, Jacob Locking, was determined that they would not walk away with another 5-0 win.  Brendan Aitken assisted by Ben Scheel and Robert White gave the QuickFeet team their only goal however Mr Uniform Tigers found the back of the net three times leaving the QuickFeet team short and ended their tournament.

Both forwards and defense should be proud of their sportsmanlike play and their coaches who gave them direction to lead them to a two win, two loss and one tie tournament.  The QuickFeet team is back in action on the 14th and 15th weekend in the Canlan May Madness tournament where they will have another opportunity to display their hockey talents.
