Minor Atoms get First Win of the 2011 Season!
With a fast pace start to the game, the Quick Feet team maintained a  high level of intensity throughout the first period that included a great fore check and an impressive back check that had the Ice Sharks on their heels.  Kyle Durrer scored on the second shift of the game with a nice twister under the glove hand of the Ice Sharks tender Owen Hahn.

The speedy line of Kyle Durrer, Cameron Lightfoot and William Black would again find the twine midway through the first period as Kyle would notch his second of the night with the assist going to Cameron Lightfoot.  Some excellent fore-checking and back checking by the line of Nathan Ahrens, Mark Aljoe and Thomas Brown made things very difficult for the Ice Sharks and created some good scoring opportunities.

The Ice Sharks would find the back of the net on a very effective power play with less than 3 minutes remaining in the period to make it 2-1. The second period saw the never say quit Ice Sharks step it up a few levels which had the Quick Feet team on their heels for most of the period.  Unfortunately for the Ice Sharks they ran into some excellent backstopping by Matthew Donnelly and Spencer Lazarevich which kept their scoring to 1 goal that was attained on another well executed power play. Guess what we will be working on next practice!

There were some very smart passing plays between Brendon Hinds, Tyson Hutcheson and Tyson Lina which just fell short of execution that could have tied the period. Smart passing plays like those will be the corner stone of what we need to do to be better than the other teams.

The third period saw the Quick Feet team find their legs again and take back the momentum of the game. Some nice passing and hard work led to Tyson Hutcheson scoring on a hard twister from Tyson Lina to give the Speedy Quick Feet team a 3-2 lead. Some excellent defense by Dawson Fahrer, Sam Bye, Braeden Virtue, Jayce Busby and Jordan Ferrier in the third period kept away any loose pucks from the front of the net and jumped on rebounds to keep the Ice Sharks opportunities to a minimum.

The Ice Sharks pulled their goalie late in the period for an extra attacker which added to the excitement and tension of the game. Again, strong defense was able to get the puck out of our end which led to an empty net goal scored by Will Black assisted by Cameron Lightfoot and Kyle Durrer to finish the game off at 4-2.

Great Start and remember, it’s only going to get faster… you’re going to play smarter and harder… and you will only get better!
