QUICK FEET NOVICE TEAM ELITE DIVISION CONSOLATION CHAMPS AT REGIONAL SPRING SHOWDOWN TOURNAMENT!
On the weekend of May 4th, the Quick Feet Novice team travelled to Brantford, Ontario for the Regional Spring Showdown Tournament, played at the brand new four-pad Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre.   The Regional Spring Showdown tournament is made up of top teams/players from both Canada and the United States.

The Quick Feet Novices started off the tournament with an early start – first game on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. against the NBay Skater’s Edge Elite team. This was a strong team and even though Quick Feet held steady, they came out flat in this game with a score of 4-0.

Quick Feet Novice would then play game number two on Friday afternoon at 1:45 p.m. against the Burlington Cougars at the Brant Sports Complex, Paris, Ontario – another beautiful new two-pad facility. The Cougars came out hard and controlled the majority of the play in the first period. Quick Feet got themselves on the board with a perfect high shot from defenseman, Josh Veerman. Even though Quick Feet applied the pressure, they were unable to crack the strong defensive play of the Cougars. Final score 5-1.

The team had a nice swim and late dinner on Friday evening then off to bed to prepare for game three which came early again on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Gretzky Sports Complex. This time Quick Feet were up against the Champions Athletics. Even though both teams came out fresh and ready to go, Quick Feet couldn’t generate any quality scoring opportunities. Final score 5-0.

The players had a quiet afternoon in order to prepare for game four @ 6 p.m. at the Paris arena – against the Regional West team. For this game (and the remainder of the weekend), the Quick Feet team would suit up without one of their players, Wilson Tone, due to illness. Speedy recovery wishes for Wilson! Both Quick Feet and Regional West would exchange chances in the first, but neither goaltender would allow a goal. At the beginning of the second period, Ryan Colquhoun would strike on goal with a nice set up from Brady Moulton. Austin Becker had a perfect breakaway in the second, to make it a very nice short-handed goal assisted by Sam Flarity. Quick Feet would top off the scoring with an insurance marker by Nolan MacKinnon – an empty-netter! Final score 3-0. A well deserved shut out goes to Goaltender Glen Crandall, who had over 25 shots from the Regional team.

Quick Feet would spend Saturday evening by the pool, and then early to bed to prepare for game five at 8:30 a.m. against the Burlington Cougars. The players, coaches, and fans were anxious to see how the Quick Feet team would do once again against the Cougars. This game was very close with end to end action! However, Quick Feet Novices were very determined and knew if they won, they would have the opportunity to play in the FINALS! Kyle Mulder started the scoring right at the get-go within the first minute of play with a goal assisted by Ryan Colquhoun. Two minutes later, Mulder would strike again with a nice set up by Keegan Fischer. The Cougars were putting the pressure on and managed to get themselves on the board midway through the second period, with the score at 2-1. Before the end of the second period, Quick Feet would strike again on a beautiful goal by Austin Becker, assisted by Ryan Colquhoun. The third period saw end to end action with the Cougars scoring their second of the game, making the score 3-2. Once again, the hot handed scorer, Kyle Mulder, led the way in the third period with a goal off the stick of James Fowler. This gave Mulder his first Quick Feet hat trick! With the score at 4-2, the Cougars made a final attempt to fight back and scored with less than two minutes left in the third period.
The Quick Feet squad held off the third period attack and won the game 4-3. Very solid goaltending by both Ryan Fotheringham and Glen Crandall!

Since Quick Feet finished this “playoff round” consolation game with a win, they would advance to play in the Elite Division Consolation Championship game Sunday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. With motivation to win, Quick Feet drove ahead with determination in the championship game six, against the very strong Green Gloves team. But the Green Gloves controlled the play for the majority of the first period and Quick Feet come out flat, with the Gloves up 5-0. Kyle Mulder and Ryan Colquhoun both scored lone goals in the second period starting the retort. The Gloves continued with their sturdy offensive force and scored 4 more in the second period making it 9-2. Colquhoun would put another loaner on the board with just two minutes left in the game to make the final score 9-3. Great goaltending tandem by Crandall and Fotheringham !

Congratulations to all players on a great tournament! The tournament MVP went to goaltender Glen Crandall and each team member received a very nice Elite Division Consolation Champions trophy.

Quick Feet had accomplished what they set out to do – show what determination and teamwork can accomplish and finish the weekend on a very high note.

Fans and coaches are very proud of each of you!

The team will now prepare for the upcoming Hockey Hilites Tournament in Stratford this weekend, May 11th – 13th.

GO QUICK FEET GO!
