First ever Quickfeet girls team wins SILVER!!
Last weekend the Quickfeet girls team travelled to Scarborough to play in their first tournament. Not knowing what to expect the girls were excited and couldn't wait to take the ice and show everyone what they could do.
The girls played their first game on Friday at 10:20 against Grrowl. The girls were excited and positive playing hard and impressed coaches and parents with their determination. The girls worked hard the whole game and never once gave up however, the Grrowl were stronger and faster and the girls fell 6-0.
The second game of the weekend on Saturday at 12:05 was against Fierce. After a good nights sleep and despite the loss the day before the girls were positive and showed great determination. The girls looked more comfortable playing together and the girls were the first to score. Caelan put the girls on top 1-0 assisted by Skyler. The girls kept fighting and and Caelan scored again this time assisted by Jaydn. The girls added one more goal scored by Maleeka and assisted by Emma. Despite Fierce putting one past the quickfeet goalie the girls came out on top 3-1.
The third game on Saturday at 5:45 showed a more confident group of girls that wanted another win! The girls proved that they were a stronger faster team than their Maksymum opponent and this game gave the whole team a chance to shine and shine they did! Caelan completed a hat trick and added two assists, Jaydn also completed a hat trick and added one assist, Skyler scored two goals and Annie scored her first of the tournament . The high score gave the coaches a chance to mix up the lines and give some girls a chance to play different positions. The whole team played amazing and several other girls were very close to scoring. Ashlynn and Sandra completed the shutout and the girls came out on top 9-0.
Sunday morning came very early for everyone with the first game at 7:45 against the Fierce team from Saturday. With a chance at the gold medal game on the line, both teams were looking for a win and another chance at the Grrowl team. The early morning and the long day before took its toll on the girls and it showed a bit. The girls were a little slow at the start and thanks to the quickness and determination of our two goalies throughout the first half of the game the score remained at zero on both sides. After a quick pep talk by the coaching staff the girls came alive!! With goals by Skyler, Caelan, and Chaise and assists going to Skyler, Annie and Maleeka it looked as if the girls were headed to the gold medal game. Fierce never stopped and were able to put one in past our goalie but that wasn't enough! The final score was 3-1 and we were getting a second chance at the Grrowl!
The gold medal game at 11:15 proved to be just as tough as the first time we met this team. The girls again fought hard and never gave up but in the end it `was not`t quite enough. The bigger, stronger Grrowl team came out on top to defeat the girls 7-0 and take the gold! At the end of the game the Grrowl coaches commented to our coaches what a difference they saw in our girls just since Friday!
The girls had an amazing first tournament and should be very proud of their accomplishments! We now look forward to the second tournament in June.
