The 2013 Quickfeet Minor Atoms secured their first win in tournament
play this past weekend (May 10-12) as they traveled to Stratford to take part in the 4th Annual Hockey
Hi-Lites Thunder Spring Spectacular.
The tournament opened with the Quickfeet team facing the all too familiar
Saugeen Maitland Ice Sharks, whom they have faced twice already this season.
Despite a valiant effort from the whole team, Quickfeet could not solve the Ice Sharks goaltender, dropping a 6-0 decision.
The loss didn’t phase the boys however, as they played a superb second game tying Regional Express 3-3, avenging a loss they had suffered previously in the season.
Saturday’s 1pm start allowed the players and parents alike to catch up on some much needed rest and relaxation. The R&R paid off, as the Quickfeet side came out with their best game of the season thus far, trouncing Sarnia’s Vision Hockey 6-1. The victory propelled Quickfeet into the top pool, where they faced second seeded HTA Lightening in the quarter finals. Despite some incredible netminding acrobatics by goalie Glen Crandall, the Quickfeet team was no match for the Lightning who moved onto the Semi Finals with a 6-0 win.
Throughout the tournament, the dynamic goaltending duo of Crandall and Ryan Fotheringham provided consistently stellar netminding, giving Quickfeet a fighting chance in every game they played.
