Bluewater Sharks Tournament Champions!
The Quick Feet 2006 Minor Atom team traveled to Sarnia this weekend and returned as tournament champions after a commanding 6 game performance.

The 06`s started the tournament on Friday morning by shocking the home team with a 9-0 victory over the Bluewater Sharks.  They followed up the first win of the weekend with a dominating performance against the Detroit Jimmy Johns team, beating them 10-0 and forcing the mercy rule after just two periods.

The Minor Atoms were far from finished and beat the Chatham-Kent Shockwave team 10-0 Saturday afternoon.
Throughout the tournament the Quick Feet team kept a close eye on the tournament standings.  The Regional Express team from London also had a commanding presence through the first 3 games.

The two would meet for the first time this season in the 4th and final preliminary game on Saturday evening.  Quick Feet got off to a great start and went ahead 3-0 by mid-way through the second. The Express fought back with two power play goals to end the period.  The minor atom`s regrouped and put an insurance goal in halfway through the 3rd.  Quick Feet went on to take the game with a final score of 4-2.

The tournament was based on a points per period format, where 1 point was awarded for winning each period and 2 points for winning the game with a possibility of earning 5 points total per game. The 06`s finished the preliminary round by taking 19 of the possible 20 points and were seeded 1st for the semi-finals and would face the Belle Tire team from Detroit at 10am Sunday morning.

The Belle Tire Cobras knotched the first goal of the semi-final game putting the Quick Feet team behind for the first time in the tournament.  The Minor atom`s woke up and netted two goals later in the first.  They added another two in the 2nd.  Quick Feet took a 5-1 lead around the midway point in the third.  Things started to get heated as both teams exchanged penalties and some physical confrontation. Belle Tire scored once more in the third but it was too little too late as Quick Feet went on to earn their place in the Championship game with a 5-2 victory.

Regional Express beat the Battalion team 6-1 in the other semi-final match-up so a re-match of Saturday evening was set for the Championship game.

Quick Feet used their speed and puck moving abilities to swarm the Express and netted 5 quick goals in the opening 5 minutes of the game.  The Minor Atoms controlled most of the play through the entire game and continued to score goals as they knew they couldn`t let up against a team as skilled as the Express.  When the final buzzer sounded on the weekend, the 06`s were crowned the tournament champions by beating Regional Express 9-3.

The Minor Atom`s played exceptional this weekend outscoring their opponents 47-7 and going undefeated through all 6 games.  Way to go boys!

There is little time to celebrate though as they prepare for their season ending tournament next weekend, May 20-22nd, at the Dunny`s Stonetown Classic in Dorchester.
