Dunny's Stonetown Classic Tournament Champions!
The 2006 Minor Atom Team returned from Dorchester this weekend as the 2016 Dunny's Stonetown Classic Tournament Champions!

The 06's started their tournament with a rematch against the London Regional Express team they played and defeated in the Bluewater Sharks Tournament Championship game last weekend. Quick Feet got off to a 2-0 lead in the first and managed to stave off any offensive chances generated by the Express. A goal in the 2nd and 3rd periods sealed the deal as the Minor Atoms shutout the Express with a 4-0 victory.

The 06's played the Bluewater Sharks team from Sarnia in their second game on Saturday morning and walked away with a 9-1 win.  They followed up their commanding performance with an 11-0 rousting of the Dunny's home team.

Sunday morning started bright and early for the Quick Feet team as they played the Maitland Ice Sharks at 8am.  Despite many offensive chances by the Sharks, the 06 Quick Feet team managed to hold them off to a 5-0 win.  With 4 wins on the weekend, the minor atoms earned themselves a bye through the semi-final round and clinched their place in the Championship Finals at 5pm.

The London Regional Express team defeated the Maitland Ice Sharks in overtime to advance to the Championship game.  It was a back to back weekend re-match for Quick Feet and the London Express team with Gold medals on the line.

Quick Feet drew first blood and notched a goal late in the first period.  The Express team fired back in the second with a power play goal to tie the game.  Early in the third, Quick Feet took 2 back to back penalties which saw the Express go on a 5 on 3 powerplay.  The 06's managed to kill the 2-man advantage with great poise.  Not long afterward, the Express took two penalties within 15 seconds of one another to give the minor atom's their own 2-man advantage.  Quick Feet capitalized early on the 5 on 3 and scored what would later prove to be the game winning goal.  They added another only seconds after the second penalty to the Express expired.

It would be all the Quick Feet team needed to clinch their second tournament championship in back-to-back weekends as they defeated the Express by a score of 3-1.

Way to go boys!

The Minor Atom's have decided to extend their spring season by entering the Collingwood Blue Thunder tournament June 3-5th.  Good luck team!
