Major Novice Take the Gold Championship
Last Friday the Quick Feet Major Novice headed down to Toronto for their second tournament of the year.  They were looking to build on the strong finish from their last tournament a couple weeks ago.

As it turned out Friday's games ended up with a lackluster effort from all.  For some, it was the first time experience of playing high level hockey in Toronto.  For others, chalk it up to a long drive to the city.  The players quickly found out that you need to prepare and be ready regardless of the situation.  After the second game and a heart to heart meeting between the players and coaches it was back to the hotel to forget about the day and have some fun in the pool.

Saturday started with the sun shining and a new hope of strong play and competitiveness.  And they didn't disappoint.  All players came out and decided to show Toronto, how tough and how strong kids from Bruce/Grey and Huron counties really were.  Instead of watching the play and reacting, they took it upon themselves to create the play and move forward, causing all kinds of problems for the opposing teams.  With all three lines going as well as the defence, the Quick Feet Major Novice team was able to fire 45 shots at the goalie in the first game that day! The opposing goalie was stellar in his play as he only let in 2. But 2 was enough for the win.  Was a very entertaining game for all including the refs - who slid over to the bench to comment on the goal celebration moves of one our players!

Game two that day was more of a continuation of solid play from the previous game.  A little slower but still a step in the right direction.  A late goal by the opposing team to tie it up and it was time for a team dinner and to get ready for the Gold Championship final game on Sunday.

Sunday the team continued to build on the momentum of the previous day.  Playing on the philosophy of attacking and dictating the flow of the game instead of waiting to react to the other team. With all three lines getting in on the scoring including a nifty little behind the net reverse from Gryphon B to an all alone Tucker M out front who wired it into the back of the net, the Quick Feet Major Novice team came out the Gold Championship victors.

After a really slow start to the tournament the result was fantastic in many ways.  Not just the scoreboard.  This weekend every player showed character, determination and a realisation that if you want to succeed in hockey or in lie in general, you can never take things for granted.  You need to make your own opportunities.

This team took a huge step forward in their growth as a team and as an individual.

Great work Team!  Now on to our final Spring tournament in a couple weeks.
